Sunny South programme is like the original programme but extends to tea estates and ends in the beaches of Kerala.
Day 1 Arrive Chennai
Traditional welcome on arrival at Chennai international airport by Travel Pals executive and transfer to the hotel by air-conditioned exclusive car for overnight stay. Chennai - India's fourth largest city, Chennai is the capital of the state of Tamil Nadu. It is a journey into timeless India, a kaleidoscope of moods, rich in the treasures of history, from temples and shrines to forts and palaces, the landscape of the past lives easily with the present. Retaining much of its traditional charm, this 350 year old city is the gateway to the south, providing many a fascinating vignette of southern heritage.
Day 2 In Chennai
Breakfast at hotel followed by a guided city tour and visit to Fort St. George, War memorial, St. Mary' Church, the Basilica of Saint Thomas, believed to have been built by St. Thomas, Sri Parathasarathy temple, Snake Park, ending the sightseeing on the Marina beach - world's second longest beach. Overnight at hotel.
Day 3 Chennai - Kanchipuram - Mahabalipuram ( 160kms / 3hrs 30min )
Breakfast at hotel then drive to Mahabalipuram, en-route visit Kanchipuram - the erstwhile capital of the Pallavas and Cholas. Visit its numerous temples dedicated to various gods and goddesses. It is also home of weavers of the famed Kanchipuram silks. Lunch at Kanchipuram. Later drive to Mahabalipuram, declared a world heritage site, too was part of the Pallavas dynasty and exhibits some of the most outstanding examples of the Dravidian style of art and architecture. Day 4 Mahabalipuram
After breakfast full day devotional guided tour of Arjuna's Penance, the rock cut caves, the Krishna Mandapam, the famous rathas and the Shore Temple.
Day 5 Mahabalipuram - Pondicherry - Tanjore ( 260kms / 5hrs 30min )
Breakfast at hotel followed by driven to Tanjore via Pondicherry visit the Sri Aurobindo Ashram and the museum. Matrimandir built in the form of a globe. Visit the Matrimandir during the meditation time for a truly spiritual experience. After lunch at Pondicherry followed by driven to Tanjore Tanjore - is one of the greenest and enchanting districts and is the Rice Bowl of the state. On arrival, check into hotel for overnight stay.
Day 6 Tanjore - Trichy - Madurai ( 195kms / 4hrs )
After breakfast a guided tour of the Brahadeeswara Temple, built in the 10th century AD and an outstanding example of the Chola (dynasty) architecture. Later visit the Palace, built by the Nayaks and renovated by the Maratha dynasty. It dates back to the 1550's and houses an art gallery, a library, a hall of music and the Schwartz Church. Later drive to Trichy (60 kms / 2 hrs) with a guided visit to the Rock fort temple and Srirangam Temple. Then proceed to Madurai. The ancient temple town of Madurai is nowadays renowned for its textile mills, engineering industries and large university areas but its significance on the tourist map is mainly because of the Meenakshi temple. The Palace authorities also conduct a Sound and Light show, which add to the significance of the palace (optional with supplement cost involved). Overnight at hotel.
Day 7 Madhurai - Thekkady ( Periyar ) ( 137kms / 3hrs 30min )
Breakfast at hotel followed by visit of the Temple which dominates the city skyline by its towering gopurams and also visits to the Tirumalai Naik Palace, built in the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture. Later drive on to Periyar. On arrival transfer to hotel for check in. Evening free to shop at the handicraft and spice shops that stretch all the way. Overnight at hotel.
Day 8 Thekkady ( Periyar )
Early morning boat ride on the Periyar Lake (Seat in boat basis) where one can have a unique experience of viewing wildlife at close quarters from the safety of a boat on the lake. The greatest attraction of Periyar, are the herds of wild elephants that come down to play in the lake. Return to the resort for breakfast. Later nature walk / trekking tour inside the Periyar Wildlife Reserve with naturalist. Rest of the day free o options from the many activities conducted by the Periyar Tiger Reserve: Jungle Patrol, Bamboo Rafting, Border Hiking or a Bullock cart ride exploring rural Kerala. Evening visit Kalaripayattu at 1800 hrs - The Orient's treasure trove, a gift to the modern world and the mother of all martial arts.
Day 9 Thekkady ( Periyar ) - Munnar ( 105kms / 3hrs )
After breakfast, visit the Tribal Heritage Museum then proceed for drive to Munnar and transfer to hotel for check in. Enjoy Christmas Eve at hotel. Munnar - once the summer resort of the erstwhile British Govt in South India, Munnar is located at the confluence of 03 rivers as the very name signifies. The sprawling tea plantations and picturesque towns make Munnar a popular hill resort town in South India.
Day 10 Munnar
Breakfast at hotel followed by a tour of Munnar, visiting its sprawling tea estates, the worlds highest and Eravikulam National Park, the best place to see the Nilgiri Tahr (mountain goat). Rest of the day free to explore Munnar or at leisure.
Day 11 Munnar - Cochin ( 127kms / 3hrs 30min )
After relaxed breakfast, drive to Cochin, The city is located on the western coast and is a major commercial and industrial hub of the Kerala state and is famous for its spices, silks, ivory and sandalwood. On arrival transfer to hotel and relax. Cultural Afternoon: This evening enjoy a cultural dance performance of Kathakali, (popular and spectacular dance-drama forms of India) 04:00 pm - 05:00 pm: Watch the artistes prepare for the performance as they put on their elaborate makeup according to the established code involving painting their face and flamboyant costumes. 05:00 pm - 06:00 pm: Watch the performance as ancient stories of Indian mythology come alive with a combination of dance, acting, graceful hand-facial movements (mudras) and traditional music.
Day 12 Cochin
Breakfast at hotel followed by a guided tour of the Cochin and visit the famous Mattancherry Palace (Dutch Palace), St. Francis Church and the Jewish Synagogue. Also see the giant Chinese Fishing Nets being lowered on the famous Vasco Da Gama Square, offering a spectacular view to its visitors. Overnight at hotel.
Day 13 Cochin - Alleppey ( 55kms / 1hr 30 min )
Departure after breakfast then drive to Alleppey and transfer to jetty point to embark on the 'Kettuvalloms' - a traditional rice boat of Kerala, which gives a romantic way to explore the unique web of lagoons, lakes, canals & rivers. Lunch and dinner on board. Overnight at houseboat.
Day 14 Alleppey - Kovalam ( 156kms / 3hrs 30min )
Breakfast at houseboat. Then drop at Alleppey jetty point then proceed for drive to Kovalam and transfer to hotel for check in and rest.
Day 15 In Kovalam
Breakfast at hotel. Enjoy day on the beach, indulge in ayurveda massage, rejuvenating yoga or just time at leisure. Optional city sightseeing of Trivandrum, to visit the Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Trivandrum - is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, one of the Gods of the Hindu trinity of Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu. The massive idol of the deity measures 18 feet in length and is covered with gold and other precious stones, Ganapathy Temple at East Fort: Dedicated to Lord Ganesh, this small temple is located in the heart of the city. Breaking of coconut is the main offering here with Attukal Devi Temple - This Trivandrum temple is famous as the Sabarimala of Women's.
Day 16 In Kovalam
Day free for Leisure at Kovalam Enjoy day on the beach, indulge in ayurveda massage, rejuvenating yoga. Enjoy New Year Eve at hotel.
Day 17 Kovalam- Trivandrum - Onward destination
Today met & greet by Travel Pals executive and transfer to Trivandrum airport to board flight for onward destination with sweet memories of Kerala trip.
